Going on a camping adventure is one of the best ways to unwind, take a break from the routine, and discover fantastic destinations. Located in the southern part of the state, the city of Nashville, GA is a great gateway to explore the sprawling state parks of the region and spend a night under the stars with your family or a group of friends. Here are three fantastic spots you should visit while in the area.

1. Georgia Veterans State Park

Located on the shores of Lake Blackshear and close to the small city of Cordele, Georgia Veterans State Park is a large nature reserve established in 1946 as a memorial to U.S. war veterans. Encompassing an area of over 1,300 acres, this place features a large museum with memorabilia dating back to the Revolutionary War, as well as several hiking and biking trails, and public boat ramps.

Georgia Veterans State Park is located about 75 miles northwest of the Nashville city center and can be reached in a little over one hour by car via routes GA-125 and I-75. This public recreation area features more than 80 fully equipped campsites with well-maintained amenities including picnic shelters, drinking water, electric plugs, fire rings, showers, and restrooms.

2. Stephen C. Foster State Park

Encompassing an area of a little over 120 acres, Stephen C. Foster State Park offers visitors great opportunities to explore the unique ecosystem of the region and go on guided boat tours. A popular destination for fishing, wildlife watching, and birding, this state park is home to some of the largest populations of reptiles in the region.

Stephen C. Foster State Park is located about 85 miles southeast of the city center and can be reached in about one hour and a half via routes GA-168 and US-441. This place features plenty of facilities for those wanting to stay overnight, including primitive campsites, a fully equipped campground, cabins, and cottages that can be reserved in advance.

3. Suwannee River State Park

Offering 30 single-family campsites overlooking the confluence of the Withlacoochee and Suwanee rivers, Suwannee River State Park is a wonderful destination for campers from all over the region. Open year-round between 8:00 am and 6:30 pm, this state park is a well-known destination for birding, boating, canoeing, wildlife watching, scuba diving, and other activities. Getting here from Nashville takes a little over one hour via route I-75.
